yea the model not having super long hair is a great example to work with (not hating on long hair at all, long is just as gorgeous). I'm gonna attempt this, keyword "attempt".

I tried this on my now shoulder length hair, I think it would have been easier to do on shorter hair.

I think it's great that you chose someone with shorter hair - too often the model has long hair that's easy to mold but it might not reflect the majority of watchers. This turned out great and now I believe anyone can do it! Awesome job!!! :)
