  • Wow....the whole TAB/standard notation thing here is pretty silly. What DG is doing here had NOTHING to do with reading ANYTHING. And I promise you....if DG was here....playing this tune....he couldn't play all the "right notes" (ie....note for note) . The only thing session players really read anyways....are chord charts.....and not even any rhythms usually. This tune is just a great country/rock-a-billy....with GREAT chops played over it. Chops are always in a state of motion and growth.

  • @WarBeer Indeed, it has nothing to do with him reading anything and everything about feel and intuition. Someone just asked which would be better for transcribing what he's playing - in order for you to study his note choices in depth which, I think, was a good question. Each systems have their pros and cons but I think a thorough scholar would use both.

  • Damn I need a Tele!!!!!

  • @jrms999 I can. A jealous egotistical guitarist that's completely humiliated by Danny's highly talented skills...But not me. I love it. Danny's an inspiration

  • I was a semi-regular at the Penn St. Station Thursday night gig for a couple years in the early '90s. I don't recall there being a dartboard behind him, but I honestly wasn't paying much attention to the decor. To the guitar player that said he didn't know if he should inspired or discouraged, don't worry, that's a common reaction to DG. I'd go home and practice till dawn.

  • Loved this guy and miss him much. You all have seen some cool shows, you should have seen mine. My wife is Robin Ruddy, steel player, banjo, dobro, etc. We lived in the DC area for some years. Danny and some of the band were friends. They played at our wedding at a friends house. I've got a picture of Danny playing my strat, and Robin in her wedding dress jammin' on steel. Beat that! So sorry for his passing and our loss. Great guy.

  • Bloody Hell! I want to give up! Or practice more - not sure which. When I haven't seen this for a while, I tell myself he can't be as good as I remember - but he's better. Just great, great, great

  • Is That Gallaghers Penn Station on The Hill?

  • INCOMPARABLE... Danny Gatton and Steve Ray Vaughan are Incomparables

  • @baja615 Not even close!

  • I saw the second to his last show in Denver at Herman's Hideaway. He was playing a Robin double neck guitar and sitting on a stool. This was the third time I had seen him in Colorado and everytime he played his ass off! He played Seattle his last show....then back to Maryland and ended it all. What a huge loss. He is sorely missed.

  • @jrms999 Just look at the folks running the world's finances and consider your comment again.... There's no shortage of eejits in this world, that's for sure!
