In his 9-part oral history interview, stage manager/performer James Wall candidly discusses his experiences as an African-American actor and stage manager in early television. He talks about working on entertainment programs, sports and news programs including CBS News with Walter Cronkite. Mr. Wall also speaks of his work on "Captain Kangaroo," first as stage manager, and later as "Mr. Baxter," a teacher on the program. At the time of the interview Mr. Wall continued to work as a stage manager in New York.

Cool! That is a good picture of them both at the beginning when he is introducing Mr. Wall. He kind of has that "deer in the headlights" look. It's funny! :)

I met Mr. Wall at the U.S. tennis open, had a conversation with him for a few minutes over lunch and wish I could have spoken longer. He shared memories of Martha's Vineyard with me.
