This time can be different

The score to the 2007 film "Sunshine" underscores moments in American history.

It begins with the very flag which inspired Francis Scott Key to write our national anthem, then to a covered wagon heading west, to the Civil War, and to the Transcontinental Railroad.

We see the Negro Leagues, Ellis Island immigrants pointing to the Statue of Liberty, the labor movement battling in the streets, sufferagettes, marchers on the road from Selma to Montgomery, a man on the moon, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, a couple at Woodstock, and a soldier in the water at Omaha Beach on D-Day.

We will write the next chapter. How lucky we are to be alive, and American, at this moment.
