I bought some landscape fabric at Home Depot and weeds went right through it!! The same with the ones at Sam's and Lowe's. I finally found one that works (Weed-X) and I'd like everyone to NOT go through the hassles I did (installing takes time, tearing it up with weeds through it takes longer!) The video shows how roots go right through the other products but not Weed-X, but water, air and nutrients can go through. BTW, almost ALL weed problems come from weed seeds blowing in and starting from top down - the fabrics that claim "weed-control" are talking about blocking weeds growing UP through them. Even newspaper will do this!
I found Weed-X at Wal-mart (oxy-moron - best quality and lowest price?!)

  • @plucknpick Since this does NOT save labor, it is better to use a quality mulch that will add to the soil, and cultivate often. Small weeds are easy to "hula hoe". Takes minutes, not hours.

  • The video is a little biased. I am not in favor of fabric weed barriers in general, plastic, or other barriers UNDER OTHER MULCH.

    1) Protects insect and other pests from control.

2)when ANY organic matter and dust, soil, mulch break down they create a media favorable to growing weeds...as in this video.

In order to make fabric mulch successful, you need to "clean the fabric" by raking back the mulch (decorative or other) and clear off the organic matter that was left.

  • this is bull shit i use this all the time and it always does a good job trust the landscapers!!!

  • uhhhh....but look at your own video. The weed roots don't penetrate the product you're shilling, but they're still growing and presumably competing with your desirable plants...?!

  • I know landscapers who have used the weed fabrics sold at Lowe's and Home Depot, and neither of these fabrics stop weeds for long. The only stuff the landscapers recommend to permanently stop weeds is Weed-X which can be found at Wal-Mart

  • Cool! It'll mean an extra trip (since I get my plants at Depot), but it looks like it will be worth it. Thanks!

  • VERY COOL !!!

  • So that's why the cheap crap I bought at Lowe's didn't work! Thanks for the info!!
