Early morning
It's cold and the sun is white
For I was born in
The darkness before the light

Of a new day
A new way of living
Of giving delight
And if you pay
Then you may be slipping
Back into the night

Then all knowing
With words and with pen I write
Of the growing
Of things that are in my sight

Of a new day
A new way of living
Of giving delight
And if you pay
Then you may be slipping
Back into the night

Early evening
It's cold and the moon is bright
And I believe in
The darkness before the light
Of a new day

  • What a lovely song! this is one of my top 100 BJH, so simple and so clean....thank U Esaetre

  • Yeah, it is one of my favourites too!

Thanks for watching, glad you liked it. :)

  • A very very nice song. Nothing more to say really.

  • It just shows how many good songs they wrote at that time. This songs, and some of the others I've uploaded was leaved out on the debutalbum, which is a masterwork anyway.

  • Fantastic track - one of their very best - superb melody and vocals from Woolly - plus great Mellotron Mk II flutes and strings!

  • Yeah. Every great band need the flute and the mellotron, no doubt! :)

  • Don't make them like this anymore.

  • WHO DISLIKED THIS???!?!!?

  • @wardek61 Ja, ein toller Guten-Morgen-Aufwach-Song. Da kann es noch so regnen oder kalt und stürmisch sein.

  • @LiteracyLabyrinth It's not a flute, it's a Mellotron MkII!

  • Beautiful flute and melancholy vocals - very nice!

  • The first BJH single. Les was much amused when someone called for it on the 1987 tour! Beautiful, memorable lyrics, beautiful melody and beautifully sung by Woolly Wolstenholme ... he left us so many lovely songs

  • @ludo281160 this was their first one as bjh
