BANKRUPT ILLINOIS RAISES PERSONAL INCOME TAX BY 66% 1-7-2011

Gov. Pat Quinn and the leaders of both houses of the Illinois General Assembly have agreed on raising the state income tax.

The plan would raise the personal income tax rate from the current 3 percent to 5 percent. That's a 66 percent increase. In real dollars, that would mean if you currently owe $1,000 in taxes, next year you would owe $1,660.

The increase is for four years. After that, the personal income tax would go down to 3.75 percent.

The Democratic leaders in the Illinois General Assembly believe this income tax increase, and a corporate tax hike, would erase the state's $15 billion budget deficit.

@patriot0048 I was wondering before the election just which race the Dem's would steal outright.

I figured it might have been Giannoulias winning over Kirk, but it ended up being the Gov's race.

I compare it to the election in the past between Todd Stroger and Tony Perica for Cook County Board President.

All night long Perica was ahead of Stroger. I remember watching on TV and Todd being asked about how bad it looked for him. Todd shrugged it off and said he wasn't worried.
