Yet more Sor.
I really dislike my tone on the E string when played with 'a' finger. Not just this piece, but all of them. Those "in the know" please give me some advice, because I find it really frustrating.
Thanks and Merry Xmas...etc.

  • Yours is the best performance of this no-so-easy study of Sor on Youtube. I really like the way you play the slurs / grace notes and the way you run the bass C line at 0:39. It looked easy on the score but actually not!

  • Thanks a lot for watching Jetz. Those thirds are all more tricky than they appear!!

    Cheers,

    Paul

  • wow! Great!

  • Thanks Alex.

  • Have you tried changing the shape of your A nail? I had some problems but I found a good shape. I heard that you can find a good shape by placing fine sandpaper around your 1st string and then playing it with your A string. Your nail will then file away a bit and then you can start from there. You'll know what angle your nail hits the string.

    Good luck.

  • Thanks a lot for the tip (no pun intended).

I will certainly give it a go.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

  • dear paul, I had the same problem, but I tried a lot and finally I found a solution.

The problem is in your wristle, becouse if it's perpendicular to the strings (like the segovia way) the Estring played with "a" will sound so twangee...so you soul turn your wristle and play on the hole 'till your sound will satisfate your ears ok??

you've a really good left hand and a beautiful guitar man,so carry on!

  • Hi Paul, you have been recommended! Regarding the "A" finger, you might consider not using it at all for Sor - in the main he didn't. Another way is to play "wrist up". This relies more on the knuckles to move and the straighter finger position allows you to angle the "A" finger towards the edge nearest the string. The idea is to get all the fingers moving in the same direction for consistency of sound. Or so I have read!

  • great job; you play it well. I enjoyed your performance.

  • magnifique!c'est de la poèsie pure.merci beaucoup ! roger from guadeloupe.

  • oh I loooove your tone it's beautiful... and don't worry about the a finger. maybe it's because of nail.

  • I like how you play it. You slow it down so nicely. It has a dreamy, lullaby quality to it.
