Kim Curlett, Renee Auffrey, Christine Baurin and Jeannine Saulnier From ALL Yoga: A Light & Love Wellness Centre in beautiful Dartmouth Nova Scotia, team up for this silly video on exercising your feet.
Upon beginning a yoga practice some clients report pain in the feet. I think that the muscles and the mechanics of our feet have become complacent because of the shoes most of us choose to wear. We go to yoga and suddenly ask our feet to lift their own arches and spread their toes out when they are used to being supported and confined. Look down at your bare feet and lift your toes. Feel the arches of the feet rise, then place the toes down one by one. Repeat but lower them down the other way (probably from big toes to little toes this time). Lift them one last time and then lower your baby toes then your big toes and leave the other 3 lifted to experience the transverse arch in your foot. Repeat this practice every day to gain strength and awareness in your feet. This is also a very useful practice for the nervous system because your feet are literally the furthest thing from your mind. Namaste!
