Shadows: the flying fortresses that fell from the sky (part one of two)
On Friday 15th December 1944 two American warplanes collided in thick cloud above Greenham Common (Berkshire, UK), killing all but two of the young airmen involved. Several local boys witnessed the incident and discovered the aircraft wreckage. 64 years later and those same boys re-visit the crash site for the first time to tell the story of what happened on a cold and cloudy day during World War Two.
Shadows is a memorial film to 16 young men who lost their lives in the fight to bring WWII to a close, told from the perspective of several schoolboys.
This mega low-budget documentary was made possible because of the help and generosity of many kind people. It was filmed mainly at weekends during 2007/08 and the first cut was premiered in December 2008 at a special screening attended by VIPs, military personnel and, most notably, relatives of the deceased.
Tech: shot in 4x3 standard def. on a Canon XL1-S; sound recorded on a variety of (semi-working!) microphones; edited very patiently with Pinnacle Studio.
Part Two will follow shortly...!
