i have no clue how to change the FRED files though:/
but most of the cargo's dont have anything in them. i tried scanning the first few cargos and all i got was "nothing"

I meant that you shall change the FRED file and take the self-destruct order out, you actually can scan it.

Well, if you change the misson, you will see this in the debriefing (seriously, try it out!):
Your success in acquiring the shield technology against such overwhelming odds has indicated to us that you are, in truth, working with the Shivans. Your interrogation is scheduled for 0930. You will be escorted to the brig.
