The best thing to do to remove any type of collection is, dispute it with the bureaus first. You just have to send a form to them thats it. It is against the law for any collection company to remove negative items from you report, even if you have paid them in full. But you will find collection companies doing that because all they want is their money. What this guy is talking about is very soft credit repair.
