A Christian cannot come to Jerusalem without asking himself what this city represents for Jews and Muslims. This is the basis for Giorgio Bernardelli's latest book, "Holy Land: Voyage to where the faith is young”, in which he shares his experiences as journalist and pilgrim, travelling to the Holy Land without expectations about what he might find. The book was launched at Vatican Radio on April 28th, with Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa, custodian of the Holy Land, in attendance. Fr. Pizzaballa wrote the preface to the book.“Father Pierbattista Pizzaballa is truly a great promoter of the Holy Land. He helped me see the Holy Land with new eyes. There was always a risk of trapping myself in a vision that was a little, perhaps, pious. Despite having lived some very difficult years there, Fr. Pizzaballa knew how to shake things up. We don’t hide the suffering of Christians in these past few years.”Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, Prefect of the Congregation for Oriental Churches, invited informed media professionals to properly cover Pope Benedict XVI’s upcoming voyage to the Holy Land.“I think that, as means of social communications, we can transmit more than just images, which in and of themselves are already a message. They are the words with great impact that we see on television, like, for example, the images of John Paul II placing in the Wailing Wall a piece of paper with his prayer. This had a great impact on Christian-Jewish dialogue.” “It needs to be documented. Journalists need to find ways to give depth to the Pope’s extraordinary voyage. He is the successor of Peter, who return to Tiberius, to Jerusalem, to those places and says, ‘You are Christ, Son of the living God.’”“As I said at the end of my speech, I wish a voyage that is, for the whole Church, a return to our roots in order to be changed, to convert our lives as individuals and as a Church.”
