This is one of the final flights of 'Alice', the SRUAV project's prototype UAV for the ARCAA UAV Challenge.

Alice is now capable of autonomous waypoint navigation (using a Micropilot autopilot), carries a basic payload release device and a video camera with infrared filter.

The team is now moving onto our final platform, Chuck, a third scale Piper Cub which is undergoing radio control (RC) flight testing. Chuck will have a complete avionics package installed in the next few weeks.

  • A micropilot will happily control something a little twitchy like an Extra or a Yak... it will just require a little more tweeking of the gains to get it nice. The default gains are intended for stable platforms but the control system is perfectly capable of flying almost anything.

  • How u get the map in Horizon?. Is it automatic from GPS or download from google map?. Do reply. Thanks.

  • very nice, i am planning on making a heavy lifter with autonomous take off and landing

  • Does the micropilot control high stability platforms only or could one use a midwing plane like an extra or yak?
