Premieres November 8th at 9PM on WCNY.
Flying the world's only ski-equipped C-130 Planes, the 109th Airlift Wing out of Scotia New York has provided vital support for international polar researchers for over 2 decades.
The men and women of this National Guard unit expertly transport supplies, cargo and crew to Antarctica and the Greenland ice sheet... enduring temperatures barely above those at which their fuel and hydraulic fluid would gel. Over a barren white landscape with no natural landmarks, these highly trained pilots must land their aircraft on a trackless sheet of ice. It's a finely tuned balance of raw skill and constant training that makes each precarious mission anything but routine.
And as more and more focus is placed on the Greenlandic Ice Sheet as the center for arctic research, these extraordinary missions continue to endow scientist all over the globe with the critical data that is now shaping our political policies on the divisive topic of Global Warning.
A dangerously beautiful, but fleeting Greenlandic landscape frames this documentary, shot entirely in High Definition.
Awesome! My mother is in the 109th!
