grr, i can't get my acrylics to blend properly, and my paintings are the worst piles of crap i've ever seen anywhere...my 5 year old daughter produces better art in her kindergarten finger painting class. do i need to paint the canvas white before starting? i keep getting the white of the canvas showing through when i paint dark colors...i use Blick pre-stapled cotton duck studio canvases, it says they're pre-primed, but i keep getting white dots under my dark colors...help..?!

I'm not sure what's causing your problem. When I paint with Acrylics, I use white gesso in a similar fashion to how I used the white oil basecoat in this video. If you're not blending into a basecoat, it may be that your colors are too transparent, thus letting the canvas show through.

I am not painting on paper. I am using a canvas panel, which is designed for use with Oils & Acrylics.

These techniques will work with Acrylics, too. Obviously, because of the faster drying time, some adjustments must be made. You'll need to work somewhat faster, of couse, to blend the "wet" sky & water areas. And you'll need to substitute white acrylic gesso for the white oil base medium. Most of everything else would be about the same approach.
