Markus Wargh plays Bach!

Markus Wargh was born 1969 in Jakobstad, Finland. He studied organ playing and improvisation at the Sibelius Academy and received his diploma with the highest honors possible in 1991. During 1992-1995 he continued his studies at the Piteå College of Music. He was awarded the degree of Concert Organist in 1995. Markus Wargh's superb talents at improvising have drawn great acclaim. Creating music on the impulse of the moment has always been an important part of Wargh's artistry. He often improvises together with other instrumentalists and singers. The combination of different instruments has paved the way for a new, very creative and interesting music.

As an interpreter of classical music he often performs organ works by Bach, for example, in addition to the great romantic virtuoso organ works. Wargh has performed widely both in his native Finland and in other Nordic countries. He has also taken part in many organ festivals and has made several radio and TV recordings. In the Lahti Organ Festival of 1992 he was chosen the Young Organist of the year. During 1995-2001 he taught organ playing and improvisation at the Piteå College of Music. At present he is working as Concert Organist and Cathedral Organist in the Cathedral of Luleå.

  • This guy can play Bach like none other. Me too, but at the bottom end. :-)

  • He would be proud. But I doubt anyone would be more awesome to see play than Bach himself. I think Wargh is a little fast. You end up smearing the runs every time, that way. Especially with the reverb in a cathedral. The acoustics force you to slow down a bit. Very good playing though. Looked like he was dancing with the pedal board.

  • Complimenti! Bellissima interpretazione di questo superbo brano!

  • bellissima interpretazione, forse avrebbe potuto sfruttare anche il positivo e il recitativo, vista la grandezza di questa fuga. Si sa niente del preludio?

  • Marvellous pedalwork skilled musicianship and impeccable rhythm,,,in short brillant!

  • @Lassann I lived in Basle for a year, near the end of which the Deutsches Dom (built around 1250 or so) opened after a year's closure. A celbration included a Bach piece--Am, as I remember, but I'm not sure; that was 30 years ago--and the theme was repeated in very high notes against a lower foot-pedal theme .For the first time I heard the importance of playing the organ to the architecture of the building.

  • Perfect. The organist has such a flowing style. It makes the music even more exciting. I think I found my favorite YouTUBE organist. BRAVO

  • Fruktansvärt bra!

  • Have listened to countless versions of this since I was a child, both recorded and live by world-renown organists on the recognized showpiece organs and it is refreshing that half a century on exciting young artists such as Mr. Wargh are injecting such vigour and verve...it doesn't hurt, of course, that this quite modern organ is also absolutely outstanding in spite of this cathedral's acoustic limitations.

    Smearing? I think not.

Wargh's confidence and facility are in perfect balance.

  • bellissima tecnica... sia di pedale che alla tastiera...

  • Excellent!!!
