The fact that scientology is so visibly attacking biological psychiatry and attacking psychiatric drugs delegitimizes all criticism. Listen, if you believe in biological psychiatry then clearly you've missed the boat - there is no such thing as 'biological psychiatry' because there is no biological proof. Get it? Even the former head of the DSM admits this. Read the psychology today article about the APA hiring a big PR firm to handle all the negative press on psychiatry's complete lack of medical proof. And guess who was the first organization to slam psychiatry's DSM as a fraud? Oh that's right, it was us.

Get the facts. The US DEA classifies Ritalin in the same category of highly addictive drugs as cocaine, morphine & opium. That's the DEA, not us. The US FDA warns Ritalin can and does cause heart attack, stroke, hallucinations, sudden death. Moreover, ADHD is simply a checklist of behaviors. Kid behaviors. There's no medical test for "ADHD" So do kid behaviors exist? Yeah. Is it a disease requiring cocaine like drugs with lethal side effects? Nope.

That is so very true. I hate seeing kids being put on medication for all these disorders out there, it just makes them worse. And sometimes meds might not even work well for a child, or trying to find the right dose can be stressing. I think therapy should always come first before medication

I think it is wrong to drug up children who get lablled with a mental illness, like bipolar disorder or ADHD. Its so painful and sad to see the damage that drugs cause on children. Drugs are not the answer to every problem

I knew a 20 year old who was on ritalin since he was a child. He turned quite psychotic. Hearing voices, slicing himself, planning to murder people and talking to himself in a very strange voice. Yea okay, ritalin is fine nothing to see here folks.

The parents doctor shopped until they got the diagnosis they wanted but even before that diagnosis she was put on drugs.

I worked with special needs kids for a few years and saw lots of kids on medication. It is a fine line between getting on meds that actually do help the kids and meds that don't do any good, or just create new problems. I have to wonder how many of the kids and adults that do awful crimes actually would have benefited more from therapy than from medication. We need to learn to deal with our flaws and overcome them, not medicate and mask them.
