Driving through Pennsylvania and New York in the summer means construction. I thought I would see if there was actually any work going on. We'll call this a PA vs NY competition.
having driven in both of those areas recently, I know that summer means construction. In Virginia and Jersey they do a lot of work at night. Big benefit here in the southland as the workers stay cooler and traffic is lighter. I think it is an excellent method and I know if I worked on a road crew, I would love nights. Just to let you know I did work on a road crew before but on a township level paving back roads with oil and stones.
I found that out last week driving on I-78 around 1:30 AM between the Delaware River and GSP. There had to have been five or six work zones and each one was highly active. I-77 and I-81 had quite a bit of work zone activity as well in Virginia.
they do a lot of work at night in many urban areas however in Pennsylvania, the work zones never end and the work never starts. Cold as your neck of the woods here in upstate New York.
Just asked some friends for their opinion, I tend to see then doing nothing, generally hanging around aimlessly. However on the motorways they are a lot better and tend to do a lot esp. at night. Sometimes on small roads, companies start construction and leave it for a few days for some reason. (Tea break, lol)
that is only because you haven't inched along in traffic thru them

After spending a week in 95+ degree heat in Georgia, I can only imagine how harsh it would be paving during the day with those kinds of temperatures.

yes, it is a beautiful place to drive, except the construction zones of course.
