the living word... the dead word... the magic word... what's that word???

a) So are you saying that there are a "universal way" of thinking or using language?
b) How is it that the skeptic using philosophical language is even understood (understood by himself at least) if all meaning is dependent on context and philisophical language doesnt hold this?
c) Are you saying that the Skeptics language is only text?

I think its a little unclear how context has anything to do with time... In regards to the snapshorts, I wouldnt say context has anything to do with what happens afterwards (kiss or kill), more so it seems to me that what you in fact are saying is that context is "dead"... what we are left with is only the text which is so "open" that every understanding is valid (and therfore no understanding from text is valid?)

Scoutie... a woman told me a few weeks ago that she was a christian cause thats where all the metaphors of life are. I can't get that out of my mind. I think she has a point
If "philosophical language is meaningless" are you then saying that there is such a thing as a natural meaningful language? And what is an "actual life"?

'Tis an example of how language is meaningless without context.

Are you saying that philisophical language doesnt have a context?

When the skeptic thinks or says "I don't know that..." in a universal way--without regard/use of context--the phrase/sentence is meaningless.

2) (con't - Kasp) Thirdly, perhaps she'd be ready for a discussion about the deeper issues involved in language,i.e.,that there is no ultimate "strict" meaning of words. In this way, we could view all language as "metaphors of life."

1) Kasp,I guess my first question to this woman would be, "So, you gain personal meaning from Christian mythology?" Her answer may be very telling as to whether or not she views christian allegory as metaphor. Secondly, I'd ask her if she'd read any poetry (outside of the bible) or visited any art museums lately.
