Well, here it is.The first time we ever really saw Jennifer Holliday on a Broadway stage and got blown away by that voice.....that voice. Here she is at The Imperial Theater in, I'd say, early 1982 along with the original cast( Sheryl Lee Ralph;Lortta Devine....) It was the same Year and Theater I saw the show, and it was nothing short of life-altering. I have always said that after seeing Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls that year, I knew there was a God.After viewing these selections(I'm putting out a few of them) you'll quickly see why these performances made history and solidified Jennifer Holliday as the Queen of Broadway..The video is a little shakey and is amatuer, but I ran the audio through my studio, and enhanced it quite a bit.So hopefully you can lose yourself and enjoy this show with this sophisticated Broadway audience.

  • I sure would like to see this on DVD in its entirety.

  • I wish they'd release this on CD, I've always wanted to see the original cast. I did see the traveling case in SF in I think the late 80's = my Dad took me as a suprise and I FREAKED when i realized I was at "Dreamgirls" :)

  • I like how the movie stayed true to these songs..they're absolutely timeless

  • I like how the movie stayed true to these songs

  • @gtb224 It's her this is the original...Jennifer Holliday, Sheryl Lee Ralph & Loretta Devine

  • I don't think this is Jennifer Holiday.

  • Loving this. Post some more if you can.

  • This role was originally written for Nell Carter, but when Nell go the call from Hollywood to star in of all things, A SOAP OPERA, she left NYC and made it to Hollywood. Joe Papp and Michael Bennett looked all over, but it wasn't until one of the co-stars of A Chorus Line flew down to Texas to hear this unknown sing in a performance. I can't remember the actor's name, but he paid for Jennifer's Plane ticket to audition for Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God. SHe was discovered in that show.

  • Amazing! Thanks for posting this :)
