I wish they'd release this on CD, I've always wanted to see the original cast. I did see the traveling case in SF in I think the late 80's = my Dad took me as a suprise and I FREAKED when i realized I was at "Dreamgirls" :)

This role was originally written for Nell Carter, but when Nell go the call from Hollywood to star in of all things, A SOAP OPERA, she left NYC and made it to Hollywood. Joe Papp and Michael Bennett looked all over, but it wasn't until one of the co-stars of A Chorus Line flew down to Texas to hear this unknown sing in a performance. I can't remember the actor's name, but he paid for Jennifer's Plane ticket to audition for Your Arms Are Too Short to Box with God. SHe was discovered in that show.

Michael Jackson, after seeing the show, said it was the best sing he had ever seen.
