Battles performing new song "Sanford and Son" (now known as "Ice Cream") at the Warp 20th Anniversary party at Terminal 5 on 9-4-09. I believe they've been playing this one live for awhile now.

Sorry for the tall dudes Pitchfork!

  • At the Dublin gig on 10th of December they called this song "Ice Cream" :D

  • @RmTheBobert That's very strange as I got one of the set lists and "Sanford and Son" was the name for it...maybe they have multiple titles at the moment. Why did Battles go to Dublin two weeks before I'm going there? Ugh!

  • Ye i remember they said on there facebook that "Sanford and Son" isn't one of the new song titles anymore. I think the lyrics even have something to do with ice cream now lol couldnt quite make them out though. Thats a real pity ya will miss them by just 2 weeks =\

  • @RmTheBobert Hmm...I'll definitely change it then as soon as it's confirmed.

  • I realize that what they are doing is technically quite difficult, and that the problem is mainly that Ian Williams can't get his loop right, but seriously, it is possible to rehearse to the point where your not fumbling around trying to get the groove right for over a minute. This happens when they play Race: In live as well, and they end up looking like amateurs. Good thing they write great music, and are great performers otherwise.

  • @athoughtdies This here was, obviously a very uninspired version before they had time to clean everything up to what it is now. Also, music is subjective. It's kind of trollish to state what you did so matter of fact-ly... Gloss Drop is a great step for Battles as a 3 piece now, and they've accomplished so much with it. Ice Cream is a great summery song, it just takes some time to get into since it is so -seemingly- different from what we are used to in Battles, even though it REALLY isn't...

  • @tehstick I'm only confused because it's clearly Ian Williams's malfunctioning technology that ruins this iteration of the song (that three-minute intro sucks). If Braxton seems uninspired with this particular performance of the song, it might be because he's been waiting three minutes to properly start the song (and even then, Williams can't get the song cued up right). Oh, also--THIS SONG BLOWS. It's the worst thing BTTLS has written--the "Gloss Drop" version is even worse.

  • This is proof that the new album would suck if they weren't forced to be a 3 piece. They said in interviews that they thought what they had before tyondai left was an uninspired record. Glad the gloss drop version is much better than this, even if it is a bit poppies than what we have come to expect from battles.

  • @TheSpallanzani he's not. old video.

  • @armpitmustache so what, sounds cool eh?

  • Braxton, is still at Battles? never thought i was going to see his afro around this video

  • Can you re-up Sweetie and the Shag, please?

  • @manicamadeus

you again? how do they suck? i love this!
