My homemade JAMO speakers built from Parts Express items.
Each speaker has one JAMO tweeter (40W RMS) and two JAMO 7" woofers (80W RMS each).
The top woofer and tweeter are sealed from the bottom woofer, and the bottom woofer is ported and tuned to ~42 Hz. The material is 3/4" MDF and the outer dimensions are 10x15x36.
I used Dayton crossovers at 2000 Hz, and 5-way speaker terminals.
It took my dad and I a few days to build the enclosure, and it took 6 layers of paint.

In this video I turned the receiver up to 0. It goes up to +18, and I've had it there with no distortion from my speakers, but the amp had distortion (and it was excruciatingly loud).
My camera mic isn't very good, so the audio comes from my laptop mic. When i move the laptop to the other side of the room, it's about 20 feet away.

Songs: A Milli (instrumental) - Lil Wayne I Think They Like It (Remix) - Dem Franchize Boyz Featuring Jermaine Dupri, Da Brat, And Bow Wow (Both those bass songs are edited by me for more bass) Kryptonite - 3 Doors Down Scar Tissue - RHCP

  • Is the bass really loud? I am running a seperate channel to my subwoofers, because I didn't think you could get loud enough bass with a 3 way crossover alone. I have a separate amplifier channel for my subs. In your video, it sounds like you have really loud bass. Beautiful speakers by the way! Wow!

  • @supermuble - the first two songs I play in this video are edited for more bass (see my vid how to boost bass and make it clean). The bass is sufficient down to 45 Hz, and with the right eq settings on the receiver the bass is excellent. When compared to my bose acoustimass module (bose bass) my towers can rattle my house even more, while sounding cleaner. So to answer your question, the bass is relatively even with the mids and highs, not louder (unless the eq settings are tweaked).

  • @08lmlp640r Thanks for the reply. I just love your speakers. Is this brush on paint, or spray paint? I made some speakers with roll on paint, and it looks ok. But I was thinking of using automotive base coat with clear coat over it, to make a very hard finish? Are you using a 3 way crossover? I Just love these speakers.

  • @supermuble - It is sprayed on, gloss black X-O Rust oil-base enamel. It took about 6 coats to get the finish I wanted, the mdf just soaks it right up. I am using a 2-way crossover - the woofers are 12 ohms each wired together at 6 ohms into the crossover.

  • are those boxes homemade aswell or did you buy them and put the speakers in yourself

  • @1990brougham - I bought the speaker drivers, the crossovers, ports, and terminal plates online from parts express, but the enclosures I made myself (see my video DIY Speaker Project)

  • very nice piano black finish! they sound great and i am sure that they sound alot better (fuller and deeper) in person due to the physical limitations of a small mic. congrats on the stunnig quality you got on such a small dime! oh and i agree with the previous comment, that is no way to run audio to such well made speakers. atleast use a portable cd player or a good ipod (like the ipod video 5th and 5.5th gen) on a ipod dock. dont use the headphone jack though, they tend to distort too much.

  • This is nice and stuff but get a good sounding cd player. This is just not the proper way of listening the music.
