Rusty Stainless takes you through the process of changing your boat trailer wheel bearings. Do you know what size bearings you will need? Find out! Shot on Kodak Zi8. Produced with CyberLink PowerDirector
@hartsbrisbane My dad always said that you do them up till it starts to slow the wheel when you try to spin it and then you back it off just enough to put the split pin in. The professional way would be to use a torque wrench - Timken specify the amount of torque on the back of the packet. But the most important thing is to recheck them after your first trip after they've had a chance to bed in.
I'm all for enjoyable boating and wheels falling off trailers doesn't do it for me! Cheers
Nice video, thanks. Can you tell me how tight should I make the nut when putting it back on, prior to putting the split pin in? Do you have to worry about over tightening?
Note: that punch was too skinny and I scored the surface where the cone sits, this made difficult to insert the new cones. So for the opposite wheel I used a good fat punch with about a 10mm (3/8th) tip on it - all good.
And yes before anybody says it - it is not a stub axle.
