Svengali is a drama/horror film from 1931, directed by Archie Mayo, originally released by Warner Brothers. It starrs John Barrymore, Marian Marsh, and Bramwell Fletcher and is based on the gothic horror novel Trilby (1894) by George du Maurier.
It deals with an evil hypnotist who transforms a woman into a great singer, but she can only perform in a trance.
The films is now in the public domain.
I like how she starts right in the middle of Lucia's mad scene from "Lucia di Lammermoor"...Hahahaha!
