Purchased a DSLR Nikon D3100 camera with 18-55 VR KIT (18-55mm lens included), additional purchase AF-S Nikkor 55-200mm lens.

Also bought a companion books, "Nikon D3100 for Dummies." A manual comes with the camera, however for a DSLR novice, the "Dummies" book is recommended.

Backyard, 4th of July parade, Washington, DC trip, and assorted photographs used to illustrate the magnificent work produced by this camera set in the "automatic" mode. The camera is 14 megapixels.

If you are going to use the video mode of this camera, suggest using a tripod. If going to pan videoing strongly suggest using a fluid-head tripod.

  • Tony, I've owned a Nikon D7000 for almost a year. Absolutely magnificent technology! The D3100 is a good model too. Don't let the Canon aficionados get you down. Canon is a good brand too but I found that their owners are somewhat akin to Apple owners: they don't think anyone else should own a different brand!

  • @vancouver57 - Thanks. I always had Nikon 35mm (SLR) cameras so it was natural for me to switch to a Nikon DSLR. I do have Canon point-and-shoot and Canon video cameras and love them, however for DSLR it is Nikon for me.

  • What does it retail for? Nice pics.

  • @GhostDog65 - When I purchased it early this past summer it was $649.00. However now it is selling just below $600.00.

Dear American people and Texas Daddy

★Please pay respect more to the original name.

Nikon's name derives from "Nippon Kogaku Kogyo(Japan optical industry)"

Yes, ★"Ni" of Nikon means "Japan".

If Japanese called "United States of A-mai-rica" as U.S.A, What do you think about that?

    Reverse is the same.

Of course, people of all other countries call it Nikon. ★Only American call it "Naikon"

    So,Please don't call Nikon campany " Naikon "

  • Dude youre so awesome

  • Choppy videos are associated with light weight cameras Tony. All you need is some hefty weight to counter that problem for still pictures. Tripods are ok for videos but I have seen some that are astronomically priced. You can buy a brand new android phones with 3d cameras for the price of expensive tripods.

  • Tony, you are an embarrassment to your country. Over the top, always looking for some poor bastard to rub your own propaganda off onto. Go and do some charity work for your community and make yourself really useful. It's a shame there are people out there who are that uneducated, they agree with you. Thanks for reading.

  • @PropagandaBuster Me as well, Tony! In fact, I still have an FM and FM2 along with a bunch of lenses. What I discovered though was that the old style lenses don't pull in enough light to produce great images. Plus, all of them were complete manual. So I bought a 28-300mm lens and an 18-105mm lens and love them both!! Robert

  • I wonder why it gets choppy when moving. I guess it is not designed as a full functioning video camera?

  • We have the camera at school, but I still prefer my own Sony A55 (Let the war begin).

Even so I have to say I don't really find this as a review... but more like a "preview" if that makes any sense like "Check out my new toy, it got sunglasses and etc etc" scenario. Even so its a great camera and I hope you'll have fun with it.
