Ashgabat (Turkmen: Aşgabat, also Ashkhabad in transliteration from Russian or formerly Poltoratsk between 1919-1927) is the capital and largest city of Turkmenistan, a country in Central Asia. It has a population of 695,300 (2001 census estimate) and is situated between the Kara Kum desert and the Kopet Dag mountain range. Ashgabat has a primarily Turkmen population, with minorities of ethnic Russians, Armenians, and Azeris. It is 250 km from the second largest city in Iran, Mashhad.

  • i like everything apart from those buildings. if u spend money like this without much reason at least get some decent architects. To be honest is a bit to late for ashgabat ( it looks like an empthy kitch disneyland to me ).

  • What song is the last played in this video?

  • communism sux! democrasy is the one which rules! what is great about communism! nothing! people didnt have anyrights! there were no individuals! community as one?? is that all u want??

  • Well, I don't mean to cause offense! If I had run the Soviet Union, it would have been a much less restrictive place. I am not without criticism of the USSR. I feel that things could've been done better and the peoples of the USSR could have lived under healthier Communism and remained united in opposition to the West.

Turkmenistan is a beautiful place with or without the USSR, but I have a strong nostalgia for the Soviet Union.

BTW, Turkmenistan hasn't exactly been free since 1991 either.

  • What a beautiful place! :D

  • nice )

  • Haha, complete with traditional Turkmeni tunes!

  • Mashallah, i never new haw beatufull torkmanistian was.subnAllah its soo nice.
