Persistence of vision proof of concept. (Pardon the choppy video, my camera isn't that good) Unlike other mechanically scanned LED projects, this device can run forever. It relies on "magnetic induction" -- much like an air transformer -- to get power to the rotating PCB. Check out: http://www.bluechipfoods.com/clyde/ --

Version 2 is being worked on. Attributes are:
[1] 32 RGB SMD LEDs instead of 8 huge LEDs.
[2] Uses an ATMEGA128 instead of a PIC
[3] Up to 30 frames/sec (faster RPM) -- using SMD parts, less mass, therefore, I can spin PCB faster. This translates to less flicker.
[4] Message (content) can be changed on the fly using full duplex IR communications.

Hardware is done -- the tricky thing here is SOFTWARE.. Isn't that always the case? Software is always the bottleneck...

  • its very choppy and flashes to top then bottom quickly, anyhow a great project. im trying to make a hard drive clock wwhich is something like this
