Walgreens Thinks I'm a Felon!

Went to Walgreens, and they have all this stuff protected by anti theft shelving!

The basic stuff like razors, deodorant, bodywash, etc. is secured against shelf sweepers who clear a shelf and run out to sell the shit at a fleamarket. The other high-ticket items are locked up because... they cost a lot and the store takes a huge hit whenever any of those items are stolen. Most Walgreens don't have their stuff locked up to that extent, that store's shrink is just probably particularly bad. Shit... why am I defending Walgreens? That place is the bane of my existance. Carry on.

Quit stealing and Walgreens wont have to do that. Merchandise would be unaffordable if theft was not controlled in some sort of way.

Doesn't Walgreen's have a loss prevention Dept to combat the theft issues in the store?

As a Walgreens employee I have to say we see certain things fly off the shelf in mass quantities without being paid for, and sometimes find them being resold at other shops. Depending on the location we try to see what things are being lifted the most and try to deter shoplifters. If you owned a business and all your $3 deodorant was being stolen would you just ignore it? Sorry you feel accused by a simple barrier to get your axe but if you are an honest customer you have nothing to worry about.

I work at Walgreens too, but I wouldn't get involved in someone stealing something, were not allowed to chase them once they run out the store because corporate does not want to be liable for the employees. That's the corporate mentality they want you to prevent stealing, but they are not trying to be liable for your safety. Selfish company. That is why I don't care if anyone steals because corporate doesn't have my back.

@GoatHerderEd on facevalue, yeah they lock up a lot of products in high theft stores. the alternative is to not offer the products at all so that they don't lose their proverbial shirt. go to chicago and dallas and you'll see entire aisles that are under lock and key. followup question: was your complaint that they have to use anti-theft devices? or that people steal at retail stores? or that you don't understand GP%...? or that you were at a ghetto store...?
