The My Lai massacre in Vietnam has long been considered the worst killing of civilians by US soldiers and has been the subject of much soul searching over the years. Members of the platoon responsible are now in their sixties and some who have not spoken publicly have felt the need to clear their consciences. Al Jazeera goes to the hamlet, speaks to the survivors and explores how the region has and has not changed.

If I was him, and I did something or was part of something so horrible, I would dedicate my life to that village, I would work for them, until I was dust and bones, I would try to come to grips with my feelings, to honor myself again, to forgive myself again, to work off the rest of my life for them, I would feel obliged to do so...this guy is just emotionless, he has no heart, he convinced himself what's done is done, i'm sorry...peice of shit.
