It's been used for over 500 years. and Prior to around 250 years ago, all if not most of the metal pipes were 100% lead.
It doesn't effect you as much as you would think. Only if you "lick" the pipes or something crazy like that.

it would take a very heavy and large roll to roll the metal. Hammering the metal is a traditional method for the northern countries I believe. Rolling works and I have tried it but my machine was not heavy enough.
