MOON JELLY TV
Episode One - "The Battle for Musitropolis."

Nowadays, you can buy MP3s or you can buy a vinyl record that sometimes comes with a coupon to download the entire album in MP3 format. With those options, who would want to buy a CD?

Join your host, Kevin Ng (of Bootlegs of the Untitled Band fame) as we explore this issue.

NOTE: It's my first attempt at doing my own "hands on" filming and editing in this digital age, so be sure to go easy. It didn't quite end how I wanted it to. Thanks!

  • Vinyl is #1 - Been collecting for a zillion years. Somehow I can't imagine someone still having their MP3's 20 to 30 years from now. Plus, you can't really show off your collection of MP3's to anyone. Without something "real" that you can hold in your hands, MP's just don't cut it...

CD's - I'm concerned that in 20 years they will be unplayable. My 45 year old Beatles vinyl plays just as good today as it did when new!

  • I've got an mp3 player for Christmas, which was after I had made this video. I must say I am paranoid about it one day breaking, and there would go a lot of my music. I also hear stories about mp3 stores that I just don't like.

I agree. I think I'm more likely to scratch up my CDs over time. It happens.

I am super careful with my vinyls though. Ahahaha

So what Beatles record do you have? :-)

  • i love vinyl. i think you appreciate music more in this way rather than mp3's.. as for cd's they aight.

  • I agree. There's just something really fun about it.

    Thanks for watching!

  • I have a large collection of CDs and I'm starting a collection of vinyl; I like having music in its physical form. But I can also appreciate being able to listen to my music on-the-go.

  • That's very true. I never thought about just having something physically there.

I keep hearing that mp3's have worse quality than the actual CD's, but again, that sort of stuff really escapes my ears.

    Thanks for watching!

  • This video isn't funny. You were a talk show host? Really? Who was listening to that besides your parents?

  • Vinyl cannot be hyper compressed or brickwalled or hyper limiting like all the releases these days... vinyl sounds warmer and more emotional, analog all the way!

  • I'm a year late on this comment. But I like CD's too. I never buy anything thru Itunes. And records are not very portable.

  • I enjoyed your segment pertaining to the CD/Vinyl under appreciation.

I also miss that feeling of having a package just for a CD I bought. However, mp3s are more cost efficient... (free) and I guess that's why people would turn to that instead of something to pay for these days. Even if it is jam-packed with goodies.

Free is free, even though that's not what we want this kind of under appreciated music sharing to be.
