Coleslaw recipes can often be heavy and unhealthy - but not this coleslaw recipe. In this video, Rita Heikenfeld from AboutEating.com shows you how to make a light coleslaw recipe with a tropical flare. You won't find any mayonnaise in this crisp and light cabbage salad.

  • Wonderful recipe. Thanks for posting. This works well also with an addition of 1/2 cup of raisins for added natural sweetness. And we switched to artificial sugar for our diabetic diets. Simply great.

  • Glad you like it. I have used Splenda and that works well; is that what you use? ~Rita

  • I just noticed that you said "some bell pepper" and "some fresh parsley"... how much measurement of each of those? Thank you : )

  • One bell pepper will work and a handful or so of fresh parsley. It's like a vitamin pill in a plant, so use it as much as you can. ~Rita

  • Are you suggesting one should supply one's household with carrots by visiting the local salad bar and absconding with the orange roots deposited in each and every one of one's available capacious pockets???

  • LOL! NO!, but the salad bar can be a great place to save time BUYING precut veggies.

    ~R

  • I WANT MY SLAW!!!

  • For crying out loud please buy your own cabbage and carrot it is so much crisper and fresh, and you shred it as thick as you want - as for the sugar, no thanks- here is my recipe - red cabbage, white cabbage and carrot plus one apple which should be something like a braeburn which is both sweet and tart.

in a seperate bowl mix an equal measure of a mayonnaise, like Hellermans, with zero fat greek yoghurt - add a bit of olive oil and a touch of black pepper and mix - mix with above and enjoy.

  • The moment she pulled out the can with orange parts I skipped the movie... Real cooks don't use cans!

  • i ate carrots but am still blind as a bat... it's genetic.

  • anti cancer? what is she on??

  • carrots aren't especially good for your eyes

  • Coleslaw recipe: 1 part cole, 2 parts slaw.

  • low cal. ? im outa here

  • Slaw is supposed to be bad for you. :-) Trying to keep it healthy is blasphemy.
