Here we are, the beginning of Zero Mission! The general room and power-up layout is for the most part similar to the original Metroid, so I know where to get certain things in Brinstar. I'm looking forward to doing this one, this is the only Metroid game that I haven't played up to this point!
Not a speed run, just a casual playthrough.
First thing to get is the Morph Ball, go left and grab that. For some reason the game decides to tell you where to go now, and the next stop is the Long Beam, something I usually don't get for a while in the NES one but oh well.
Missiles are in their usual spot, but then there's something different: Deorem, the first boss, is right there! To kill it, shoot missiles at the open eye and use the little spikes that fly from its body to rearm yourself when you're out. Wherever it is looking when it closes its eye is where it will attack. I accidentally waste all my missiles before I can kill it so Deorem leaves. Next time...
Items obtained: -Morph Ball -Long Beam -Missile Tank x1
