Throughout the 20th Century Doncaster was home to many amateur and professional filmmakers. In the early 1990's two videos 'Bygone Doncaster' and 'Bygone Doncaster Revisited' were released featuring many of these archive films.

The videos have now been digitally remastered and compiled onto a single DVD with an interactive menu to allow users to access the many different clips. The DVD includes over 100 mins of film showing the Doncaster our grandparents knew...

The DVD and a VHS version are available from the Doncaster Star, Free Press, the Tourist Information Centre in the Blue Building on High Street, and by mail order.

  • Doncaster is my 'adopted' home town, it's a BRILLIANT place and Iv'e lived ALL OVER the place, people are loverly too! DON'T ever change it! so there! Bryan S.

  • We still have the market! a good one at that! they will never take that from us!

  • The demolition of the Sand House is the bigger crime. There was no where like it in the whole country.

  • doncaster's almost unrecognisable in this video, wish they didnt pull down all those really historic buildings such as the guildhall, and go and replace them with them hideous grey concrete buildings we see today, obscuring the skyline of doncaster.

  • @cheekyleopard fair enough, i dont really go that much i prefer less frequent nights out but bigger ones in places like leeds an sheffield, every man to his own tho i spose

  • @BigBaggaBlues

Nah im not joking. Its a brill night out. Loads of pubs within a smallish distance, and down to earth people.

No-where is like Donny! Im bias because i was brought up there, but i think its generally accpeted that Doncaster is good place to go drinking.

  • @cheekyleopard best night out in england??? are you joking?? id like to hear why if you dont mind

  • @stevedn1 I entirely agree with all you say. The demolition of the guildhall was a travesty.

  • The REAL people of Donny are lovely. The council and local politicians are dreadful. Why go to "Clone Town" when there are better places in Yorkshire? Doncaster will be a faceless place with no identity.

  • Donny born and bred and proud.

Have lived in other places (currently loughborough) and NOTHING is like donny.

Down to earth people and BEST night out in england.

    I MISS DONNY! :-(
