Under the take offs of planes departing Los Angeles International Airport, 5,000 Los Angeles area students formed a human mosaic on the wet sand at Dockweiler State Beach near Playa del Rey. The children set themselves into the shape of the planet and the words "sustain life" in honor of Kids Ocean Day an educational event hosted by the Malibu Foundation for Environmental Education, and various government agencies. Prior to this event,, the students cleaned up trash at the beach.
