Dusted off an old chestnut I composed many years ago for this year's holiday greeting...This one's dedicated to all you lonely fruitcakes out there!
"PIECE OF FRUITCAKE"
Music and Lyrics by: Mandel Ilagan
Here I'm sitting on my plate,
One piece of old fruitcake,
Everybody's going home right now
My friends have all been eaten up
Washed down with egg nog cups
Sitting in somebody's tummy now
What do I do?
My Yuletide cheer and joy have come and gone
Where do I go?
My rum-filled blues just keep on going on
Here I'm sitting on my plate
One piece of old fruitcake
Filled with candied goodies for your tongue
Some green stuff on the outside
Some red stuff on the inside
On top a cheery that's been plucked young
Please don't leave me
Next to the package from Hickory Farms
The cheese smells bad
The sausage brings my cherries bodily harm!
I wished you, "Merry Christmas,"
Was sweet and so good
I brought in some Joy to the World like a fruitcake should
Why don't you eat me now?
Have your cake and fun...
A little bit more nutmeg never hurt no one
Someone bite me
My nuts are falling off onto the floor...
I'm crumbling here
My gooey texture's getting dry and sore
I brought you luscious goodness
Even had some raisins too
I didn't even say a word when you cut me in two...
Please gobble all of me
I'm almost alcohol-free
A little bit more nutmeg never hurt no one
Here I'm sitting on my plate
One piece of old fruitcake
The fun is over 'cause the party's done
A little bit more nutmeg never hurt no one
