Because they're loud and scary. And even though the chain is off, they seem real. It scares people to think they're going to get limbs hacked off.

Yaaayy I got thee annual pass and ima go this Holloween cuz I love a good scare but it's da shit..Do the performers touch you cuz I saw someone touch the girl and I want to know if they touch you cuz that wud be fckn even worse as in way scarier.! Universal is the best.!!! :)

Officially, the monsters are not supposed to touch you, but sometimes in the heat of the moment they can't avoid the occassional collision.

that chick in the asylum was funny the whole "I need new eyes, can i have your eyes" got me to lol but back then was the performance alowed to touch you? or the ppl walking through aloud to touch the performance?

In theory, the performers are not supposed to touch you, and vice versa. In practise, the mazes are so crowded that a certain amount of bumping does occur.
