3 weeks later

Joe's POV
I don't know how many times I had run around my bedroom chasing Demi but everytime she just wasn't fast enough to outrun me and escape my persistent tickling.
"Joe, stop it, I can't breathe", gasped Demi through her giggles.
"Fine, fine I'll stop",' I consented.
I climbed off her and immediately she jumped up and ran past me. She had done it again.
Still giggling she teased, "Ha! We have been best friends for how long and you still fall for that!"
"You're gonna pay!"
I chased after her, caught her around the waist and began tickling her all over again. Another fit of uncontrollable laughter and then we collapsed onto my bed. Suddenly I found myself lost in the depths of her eyes. God, she's beautiful. Wait, what?! Did, I just think that about Demi, my best friend?

Nick's POV
Ugh, there was nothing on tv and I was bored out of my mind. I could go for a drive but I just wasn't in the mood. Actually I hadn't really been in a good mood for three weeks now. I walked into the kitchen and grabbed my usual diet coke and a magazine off the kitchen counter. I flipped it over and who was on the front cover? Of course, Miley and Justin. The usual pang of jealously seemed painful as I flung the magazine against the wall. Just then the doorbell rang. Oh great, I really don't feel like talking to anyone.
I shouted up the stairs, "Joe would you get that?"
No answer. Looks like I was going to have to get it after all. I dragged my feet to the door and opened it with what I'm sure was a frown on my face which quickly turned upside down as I saw who it was.
Miley stood in front of me, the sun glimmering off her hair and her cheeks a rosy pink. My breath caught in the back of my throat and I wondered how I could even begin to compare another girl with her.
I finally seemed to gather my wits and spoke, "Miley! I am so glad you have finally come to see me. I've missed you but now we can talk."
"Nick, I am not here to see you, I'm here to see Joe.
My heart seemed to drop to my shoes as I heard her cold words."
"What? Why are you here to see Joe?" I spoke in a tone which matched hers. If thats the way she wanted it then thats how it would be.
She answered, "Just because we arent friends doesnt mean I cant be friends with Joe."
She was angry but I wanted nothing more than to just kiss her. However, with difficulty I kept my cool and refrained from being too honest again.
"Can you just show me where Joes room is? I have no idea where it is because this is my first time in this house as you seemed a little too busy for me last year."
That was a low blow. I knew I'd been a jerk last year but Id tortured myself over it enough and I really didnt want her to remind me.
I stomped up the stairs and she followed behind me.

Demi's POV
This was strange. Joe and I had suddenly become quiet, the mood changed .
"Joe why are you looking at me like that?"
I think that somehow we both knew what was coming next and I did nothing to stop it. Our lips crashed together in a fiery passion I couldnt have ever imagined possible. It was like each of us were the missing puzzle piece in the others jigsaw. I had wanted this for so long but it was so terribly bittersweet as I knew I couldnt have it.
I pulled away as both our shallow breaths seemed to meet and mingle in the empty room.
"Joe, we can't...Taylor. It's wrong."
"I know."
We just looked at each other before he pulled me back down and we were lost in each other once again.
