  • I know there was ownership change many years ago, but how come the new owner trashed all of WPRI's packaging to look so generic, or be closer looking to WNAC?

  • WBZ was not even impacted, because when Group W bought CBS, they opted for WBZ, which in turn, sold WPRI to not get involved with the CBS LMA issue that could had happened.

  • WNAC (Fox Providence) invoked the rule, not WBZ. It got all Providence stations removed from MA except in Bristol County, where Boston stations were removed.

  • I remember watching Jim King front the 5 & 11 PM shows (by this point, Walter Cryan was only doing the 6 PM show, eventually he retired for the 1st time and Jim became the main anchor and did the 6 & 11 PM shows). Jim looked very stiff behind the anchor chair

This was before WPRI was dropped from my cable lineup b/c of a non-duplication rule (likely because WBZ invoked this rule)

  • Walter Cryan, man I forgot he was on 12. That takes me back a bit.

  • Jim also became main anchor after Walter Cryan retired.

  • They are also owned by Lin now

  • Wow I never seen this era of 12 its in my home market. There now known as Eyewitness News.

Walter Cryan retired from 12 in 2000, then went to WLNE in 2004 and retired again in 2007.

Karen is still at WPRI she co-anchors the 5 & 11 newscasts, plus solos the 6.

    Tony Petrarca is still chief.

Jess Atkinson later went to WUSA in Washington, and now he's on a cable sports network somewhere.

Pat Mastors left in 2004, and now teaches.

Jim King worked at WPRI from 1999-2001, I don't remember him.
