The khaen maker's name is Paw Kane. He is from Ban Si Kaew, Roi Et. That village is famous for khaen making. That is where I got my first khaen. I got a total of two khaens from him. I wish I got more because now he doesn't make the khaen as good as before. I still have one of his khaens and it sounds really good. What determines a high quality khaen is the reed. It has to have the right percentage of metals used. Then it has to be shaved correctly.

I visited this instrument maker while I was in Muang Phon, Thailand, over the winter 2010-2011. I went to his home in Roi Et, Thailand.
I have a few short audio recordings of him playing.
I have 5 Khaen for sale in the US. Please contact me for more details.

Furthermore, the French did not give Isan to Thailand(Siam at the time), Siam relinquish claims of territories east of the Mekong to France due to Franco-Siamese conflicts that led to two separate treaties. By the 1800s much of these kingdoms were tributary of Siam as well as the court in Hue. Furthermore, the French did not give Isan to Tha

@wattnott Thanks for the video. But the Khene is a Lao Instrument, it's Origin is from Southern Laos, centuries ago, North East Thailand used to be a part of The Lao Kingdom Lan Xang, Kindom of a Million Elephants. Thailand took 16 provinces from Laos, Northeast Thais are of Lao origin, the speak Lao and they play the Khene...Isan was given to Thailand by the French now those people are of Thai nationality, but their blood is Lao.
