October 2007
Zimbabwe, once one of the most prosperous nations in Africa, now has the lowest life expectancy and highest inflation rate in the world. Life has become an everyday struggle for survival.
The supermarkets in Bulawayo are all empty. According to the shopkeeper, the last time they had bread was "a month ago". Filming secretly undercover, journalist Ginny Stein captures the desperation everywhere. "There is no water. Nothing, just nothing", laments 'Tony'. "Children are hungry, everyone is hungry. Our government is a monster". Even if there were things in the shops, most people couldn't afford them. A teacher's monthly salary now buys the equivalent of one MacDonald's family meal. Malnutrition is taking its toll on people's health. "Up to 75% of the people coming in have diarrhea and vomiting", states Dr Thandazani. The fear is that these problems will only get worse. In July, the government forced businesses to half their prices. Now it's proposing to nationalize 51% of all white-owned businesses. "The economy must be in the hands of Zimbabweans", states Ambassador Khaya Moyo. But unsurprisingly, manufacturers and retailers feel they're being made new enemies of the state.

  • Long live Rhodesia!!!

  • Hey, they wanted the prick; serves them right. Even more guilty though are the Leftists and other Marxist scum in the West who supported Mugabe. Notice how these loud mouths all went quiet once the tyranny was inflicted. ABC journalists and their fellow travellers in the ALP were as guilty as anyone. Infinitely worse things have happened in Zimbabwe than anything conducted under Smith's government.

  • Mugabe was not the best President? Yeah sure, in the same way that 911 2001 was not the best day to visit the World Trade Center. Mugabe is murderous venal corrupt monster. Destroying zim agriculture was not the only option open to him.

  • @Wingatewasright Look at you feeling all good about yourself because you call black l people savages again. I bet you would love to do the same thing in real life, wouldn't you? I guess unless the UK has remarkable and unfortunate social change you will just have to indulge your urges anonymously over the net.

  • @MenengaiCrater 5% owned the best land and now 45% suffer from malnutrituion and 94% are unemployeyed... Yep, land redistribution has really worked.

  • @MenengaiCrater The numbers come from the Government of South Africa you ignorant savage.

  • @ma049 I know Mugabe is not the best president but as far as land issue is concerned he is 100% right. Ever since 1980 when Zimbabwe gained independence, Britain had refused to negotiate the land issue. Settlers took the best lands. 5% population occupied more than half of the good lands and refused to budge. When he acted, they imposed sanctions.

  • @Wingatewasright Making up numbers will not help anybody but look at who I'm arguing with, you can't accept that Africa belongs to Africans, backward as we are. What don't you get when I tell you Africa does not need the land grabbing British? Or are you about to come up with another theory how the British were the first people in Africa?

  • Seems

  • Wow. This clip really brought out the worst in posters: a western racist who can barley suppress his glee as he crows and calls people savages and an African denialist who wants to blame the west for ZANUpf's crimes against humanity.

  • @MenengaiCrater The main threat Africans have faced when it came to the security of their land has always come from other Africans. The history of Africa has been one of war, migration and land theft since the year dot. Go back 150 to when what is now Zimbabwe was ‘owned’ by Blacks and what do you have? Backwardness and war. As for your insulation that Africa does not lead the World in chid rape simply look at South Africa where the government states that 60 child rapes are reported EVERY DAY.

  • @Wingatewasright I'm glad your family is not as greedy as the others. Now when you compare the number of Africans that died trying to fight for their land, you will see the current problems in Africa are miniscule. The most important thing right now is to get the land grabbers out then work on other problems one by one. Africas problems are Africas problems, the same for Africas land. And child rape central is not in Africa, you know that.
