  • And Kenji you so silly. lol. but she do be singing. lol.

  • Sis. Thelma Jackson had a most unusual voice, it was very course and rough, but yet she was able to hit them high notes, anointed. Plus I have always loved that gray streak in the front of her hair. lol. This is for all you Clara Ward Singers lovers. Enjoy

  • Who would think a voice like that would come out of her mouth. She had a very pleasant voice.

  • Yeah. looking at her you wouldn't think. But she was truly anointed to sing gospel. I just love her voice.

  • @direfranchement She started with my fathers group The Ivory Gospel singers. They recorded 4 song and made it to Billboard in 1948 singing Jesus, Precious King and more. Her sister sang wit the Vashti singers. The leader of the Ivory singers (my father) is now married to Shirley Casesar and is the Senior Prelate of MtCalvary

  • Stunning performance of one of my very favorite songs, maybe the best for me!

  • Her voice was kind of gravelly, but she hit them high notes with clairty !

  • Thelma Jackson was just plain stunning! Her delivery was defiant, declarative, commanding and blazingly hot. She combined her forceful, unpolished chest vocals with that celebratory head extension for a concise, dramatic, even contradictory production. Only three records with the CWS? What a shame...I can only imagine how incendiary she was to watch as a live performer considering how stimulating she is on record.

  • Great singer that she was, Thelma only cut 3 songs with the Wards, 2 with the Specials, and 1 with the Waldo Singers. There's a nice TV Gospel Time clip of her leading Marion Williams' "Traveling Shoes" with her Baltimore choir ... still looking beautiful but without the skunk's tail coiffure. After the Stars of Faith left, Clara brought Thelma back for big appearances (the Apollo) where she would lead Marion's "Surely," "Packin' Up" and "We Shall Be Changed." She was just superb.

  • I love me some Thelma Jackson. That thing be singing.
