This is how the earth would have appeared from near the moon on October 12th 2007, though it's not a freefall orbit around the moon; the Celestia Open Universe program can be run to maintain a viewing position on the sunlit side of an object. The moon orbits the earth approximately in the plane of the earth's orbit around the sun, within about plus or minus 5 degrees, not above the earth's equator. That is why the earth appears tilted at an angle of approximately 23.5 degrees here.

  • The moon doesnt spin

  • @lukealandrummond The same side faces Earth but the moon orbits Earth so it does spin once per orbit. It rocks backwards and forwards slightly also.

  • @andrewburbidge that isnt spinning...

  • @lukealandrummond I think we've got a disagreement here because of the shifting ground of the discussion and where I said the moon rocks backwards and forwards, that's only as seen from Earth. When seen from outside the Earth-Moon system, the Moon continually rotates the same way but at a rate that varies slightly.

How would you define the word,'spin'? Don't we live in a system centred on the sun where that is the place that defines what is spinning, not the surface of Earth?

  • There's a mountain of evidence that the Apollo moon missions were faked. I posted a partial summary of it on a science forum. Google "The Naked Scientists". In the "New Theories" section of the forum there's a thread entitled "Did We Land on the Moon?". The summary is on page 15. It's the 7th post from the top.

People who still think they went to the moon simply haven't seen the hoax evidence yet.

  • It's incredible what some people can believe, or say they believe. Apparently, some people still believe our planet is flat - or isn't a planet at all, then. Maybe they are behind the idea that we haven't been to the moon.

  • @lukealandrummond The moon and Earth spin at the same speeds, and we always see the same side.

    Source: I am a scientist.

  • @Cosmored:

No, you idiot. People who keep claiming we didn't go to the moon are simply refusing to accept any evidence that we did. We did, it's been proven hundreds of times over, and you (along with the rest of the idiots) simply refuse to believe it. It is easier to ignore the real evidence and listen to the kooks, than to accept the reality, isn't it?

  • The idea that the Apollo Missions were faked is due to the fictional movie: Capricorn One. I grew up in the space program including attending ticker tape parades for Shepherd and Glenn. It was a lengthy process that took a decade to complete. I stayed up all night to hear Neal Armstrong say "That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

So when I hear you slackers say the Apollo Missions were faked I think "too bad for you, you were born too late to experience our crowning glory

  • not really considering a majority of the world believes in god, talks to invisible voices and is willing to fight for him and use religion is an excuse to defend thier country, and aithiests compromise 10-15% of the human populace.
