This feature-length documentary tells the story of the last huge supply (20%) of fresh water on Earth. The Great Lakes, source of drinking water, fish and emotional sustenance for 35 million people, are under assault by toxins, sewage, invasive species, dropping water levels and profound apathy. Some scientists believe the lakes are on the verge of ecological collapse. Filled with fascinating characters and stunning imagery, WATERLIFE is an epic cinematic poem about the beauty of water and the dangers of taking it for granted.

  • I loved the documentary and want to post a youtube advertisement of it to my 300plus friends on facebook to encourage them to watch it however despite how great the images & song is here Im dissatisfied with it because it doesnt tell a viewer what this doc is really about, doesnt intrigue, doesnt tell enough of a "story"... I'll post it anyway but hope another one is created that sells the doc better- & makes peeps want to watch it asap-everyone needs to see this doc- knowledge is power!

  • Tragically Hip and Gord Downie FTW

  • When you live along one of these incredible lakes: it hits you like a ton of bricks. Lake Ontario: is my lake.

  • Watched this documentary on Global TV last night, Friday, June 11.

As for the belugas. Yes, I know what you mean. Thing is: this massive precious chain of freshwater lakes, eventually drain into the St. Lawrence River; by-passing Montreal and eventually into the brackish waters beyond Quebec City. So, we do affect those lovely creatures upstream from there.

  • 2:48, shows a pregnant women. If your wondering why that's connected to freshwater, its because we get our drinking water resources from lakes, most of the water that a pregnant women drinks, is put into the womb, your baby basically inside of the womb is actually swimming in the water you drink, so if there are toxins in the water you are drinking, imagine the affect it would have the baby inside of the womb.

  • Well, fresh water comes from lakes. Lakes water is generally meltwater. The water contained in glaciars and snow comes from rain. And well, finally, rain comes from seas. There, the belugas.

Most important of all of this, is that we are all conected, between us and with the environment. And water is one of the chains of that connection. Water from lakes, from rain, from seas.

  • Maybe this is a silly question, but why is there an video footage of belugas in a documentary on freshwater? 2:54

  • This saddens me, everyone in that picture is my family.
