A very useful but elusive tug, this diesel powered monorail tractor vehicle is used for maintenance of way at the original Disneyland..
Safety first: The tractor is primarily used for beam inspection each morning prior to operation. Part of that inspection includes removal of vegetation six feet beyond where any guest could reach - so the tractor has a catwalk and rails to facilitate clearing the zone and other beam maintenance..It is Diesel powered to operate independently of beam power and designed to grapple and haul a fully loaded monorail train-set in the event of motive failure, facilitating an orderly disembarkation.
Courtesy: the tractor can be used for yard switching and shop maintenance such as train-set separation for removal and replacement of the articulated load-bearing tire.
Show: The tractor is not part of the guest experience, and is backstage during normal operations.
Efficiency: The tractor is designed to handle the many and varied tasks required for safe operation.
