December the 27th 2008 was a dark day. It marked the passing of a giant of the High Street; Woolworths. Aylesbury's branch had moved to the Friars Square shopping centre in 1970. Today was the day it closed for the last time (TBC)

Having worked for retail firms as they went bust and knowing it's not much fun, I'd like to wish the staff the very best for the future.

  • I'm glad to watch local historical recordings from this contributor.

I note the excellence of his video, "Inside The Old Odeon Cinema".

  • lol this kinda reminded me of Dawn of the Dead...especially when you get to 3mins 45secs and your commenting on 'in the closing hours and minutes, shoppers still came...perhaps curious....perhaps just wanting to say goodbye'

I had this image of mindless zombies going about their daily routines...just as they did when they were alive....

  • Hey. We've moved into the old site now (14 hours every day last week refitting). I have been trying to decipher where what part of woolies we are covered on (because we have the old unit of Adams next door as well).

  • hmm I dont know probably not,. They said a couple of months ago "2 major fashion retailers" but didnt specify. We'll be moving into half of old woolies and Adam's next door as well. :D
