There is a Chinese saying that goes: "ren bu wei ji, tian zhu di mian". It means that it is natural for man to live for himself. He is the centre of gravity, he is the focus of life. However, this kind of thinking is not quite Biblical, in fact, it is totally anti-biblical. But that is the way the world thinks, that it is about me, myself and I. The things that I think about are about me. The things that I do is for me. Even our faith and religion is for me. And we think that God is here for me.

But let us look at Daniel chapter 5 and verse 23. God said to Belshazzar that he has the problem of pride, in a sense that he has lifted up himself against the Lord of heaven. And he has not acknowledged nor glorified God in whose hand his breath is, and whose are all his ways. Belshazzar did not realize that God is the one who gave him life and gave him wisdom in all his ways. And instead of glorifying God and living for God, he was lifted up in pride for himself. This reminds me of how the Bible describes what life should be.

The Bible says in Revelations chapter 4 and verse 11 that all these things that we have in life, all that we are in life, is not for us. It is for God. In Revelations 4:11: "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." So what is life? It is for the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says: 'Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.'

So what is the centre of gravity? It is never man, it is always God. Yes, God is here for us but ultimately our lives are then to be oriented around him. We are called to worship Him and when you worship self, that is idolatry, it is wrong, it is sinful. So ask not what do I want but ask what does God want. Let us not pray, "My will be done" but let us pray, "Thy Will be done!" Why? Because God is God. Let God be God. Ask yourself today what is the centre of your life. Is it yourself or is it God? Will illness, pains or riches push you away from God because your own comforts are not met? Be careful. The centre of our lives is always God. That is the way we are created and that is where God wants us to live. A God-centred, God-glorifying life. May God help us to re-orientate our lives for His glory. God bless.
