@mspeir when you buy rough lumber it is refereed to in quarters of an inch. When you go to the lumber yard and ask to purchase hardwood you ask for it in 6 quarter if you want 1 and 1/2 inch thick boards. Typically the big box stores like Home Depot or Lowes sell dimensioned boards and they will refer to it in inches. In either case you can ask for a certain amount of "board feet" then specify the thickness in quarters. You can also buy lumber by the linear foot at the big box stores.
@sdgood Thanks for the info. That is really good to know. I am about to buy a scroll saw and I am tired of buying lumber at big box stores. At best, they carry the best of the cheapest.
I've never used a scroll saw before and your tutorials are a Godsend!
Four quarters? Six quarters? Do you mean 1" and 1 1/2"? I've never heard it termed like that.
