How to make a Minecraft Beta Server! (Updated)

Read me!

This is an updated version of my earlier and more simpler tutorial on how to make a minecraft server. Keep in mind that this is a very simple tutorial for a simple server for you and your friends to play on and is not intended to be used for a clan or a large party of people. (more than about 4)

To Find out your IP Address to put into the top address bar, go to Start, then go to Control Panel, then select "Network Connections". Find 'Local Area Connection' and double click on it. Go to the 'Support' tab, and find the IP address listed as 'Default Gateway'. Put that into your address bar, and you are good to go!
Alternatively, you could do Command Prompt (CMD) and type "Ipconfig". The address listed as "default gateway" is your router.

If the password "admin" and username "admin" does not work, search for your router and look at the password here:

Port forwarding layout:

Start: 25565 to End: 25565 Both

Your IP adress: http://cmyip.com

List of minecraft servers: http://servers.minecraftforum.net/

If you want a full list of commands you can do with the server, type in "help" into the server console.

is it important to port forward because my dad is telling me that it is NOT important. after seeing this tut i think it is.....plz reply!!!!

@break2471 It is important to forward your ports. Without it, no one that isn't on the same internet connection as you will be able to connect to your server

i have a linksys router. i have been trying to port foward and every tutorial on how to port foward shows this same exact thing! i have done the same thing and it doesnt work! so for a while i have been using logmein hamachi which worked fine until the other day! now nobody can connect to my server!! what am i doing wrong??

I am wonder how you pull up the alpha part of the minecraft part. I can't find it.

I use hamachi and \I've been on my friends server before but it comes up with Failded to conect to the server connection timed out:connect, do you know how to fix it?
